The client

XAL is an innovative premium manufacturer of lights. For over 30 years, the company has been developing individual, state-of-the-art luminaires together with architects, designers and planners, which also impress with their style and aesthetics. With around 1300 employees and 30 international locations, XAL offers a particularly high level of customer service. XAL is a leading expert when it comes to the technology and quality of its lighting solutions, illuminating retail shops, modern office buildings, exclusive hotels, restaurants and private houses around the world. Thanks to the organizational efficiency and a high in-house vertical range of manufacture, XAL can respond individually to the needs of customers and continuously expand the existing product portfolio.

The challenge

XAL is a dynamic company with a very high level of vertical integration and international networking of its production sites. In addition, the company's success is based on the number of order lines and not on large order quantities. As a result, the focus is on topics such as the automation of administrative processes, the close networking of sales, production and logistics, and always up-to-date resource and procurement planning across all locations around the globe. Of course, the focus was not only on the implementation of the processes, but also on a well-thought-out rollout concept. The requirement was to not generate any failures due to the new ERP implementation.

The solution

The core processes were worked out and precisely analyzed together with XAL. Based on this, possible solutions in the ERP system were developed and presented. Our very well-established network of partners and versatility in dealing with a wide variety of software solutions gave us the freedom we needed to develop a tailor-made implementation concept. In particular, solutions such as the automation of the entire process chain for the UNICO product series, from configuration on the web to automatic logistics systems and integration of assembly robots to robot-supported checking and booking of shipping documents and invoicing. The rollout of 17 companies was implemented in two stages within 6 months. The sales subsidiaries and partners were rolled out in the first stage, and the production sites with all directly connected sales companies in the second.

The outcome

A significant improvement in order throughput time has been the main advantage since the introduction of Dynamics AX. In addition, adherence to delivery dates has been significantly improved and costs have been reduced. The noticeable increase in performance, which occurred very quickly, compensated well for the relatively short decrease during the rollout.
